Case studies

Don’t take our word for it, just ask  our partners

Methanol case study
In partnership with strong institutional investors, Blackrose is establishing a 1.8 million ton per annum (5,000 tons per day) greenfield natural gas to methanol project. The project will receive its feedstock from the NNPC/MPN JV through two effluent streams – natural gas supplied from the Oso field, and the QIT flare gas to be recovered from the crude oil stabilization process at QIT. This methanol production facility is set to become the most energy-efficient of its kind. By utilising advanced technologies, the facility aims to save up to 0.7 million tons of CO2 eq of greenhouse gas emissions annually by converting gas that would have otherwise been flared into low carbon methanol.

LPG Case Study
We produce low carbon chemicals to support the decarbonization of the chemicals and transport industries. Through strategic partnerships, QIEH is developing sustainable projects, including infrastructure for LPG and cleaner fuel solutions in the transport sector. ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions (tkIS) is the technology licensor, using the AdWinMethanol® process for methanol production. Hualu Engineering & Technology Co. Ltd (Hualu) is preselected as the EPC contractor, and Technip Energies (T.EN) is the Project Management Consultant.

Ammonia Project
QIEH and its partners are developing a 2.2 million ton per annum low carbon energy transition and food security co-production platform for ammonia, phosphate, and ammonia-based fertilisers production project to be established in 2028.

Data Center
QIEH is planning a 6.6 – 9.9 MW, Tier III carrier-neutral data centre near Facebook's fibre optic cable landing site. The centre's modular design, pre-installed and pre-tested, aims for a 12-18 month delivery. It will be climate-friendly, using excess power, CO2, high-temperature chilled water, fan wall solutions, and AI technology. State-of-the-art AI will enable asset management, and the design targets IFC EDGE certification. Located 1.5 km from the beach, it will be in a Class C marine environment.

LNG Project
Nigeria has the largest gas reserves in Africa and the 9th  largest gas reserves in the world, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global LNG market. New investments are required to close expected supply shortages driven by the bullish role LNG is poised to play in a low carbon-intensive global market. Nigeria is uniquely positioned to establish mini, mid and large-scale LNG projects. QIEH aims to develop infrastructure for LNG as a cleaner fuel solution in the transport sector in partnership with reputable institutions. Blackrose has made a strong case for a mid-scale onshore or nearshore LNG concept and proposes to secure long term feed gas supply to QIEH.

Agriculture
Fish accounts for 1/3 of Nigeria’s animal protein consumption, with the fishery sector contributing 3-4% to GDP. In 2020, domestic fish production was 1.52 million metric tonnes, below demand, leading to 0.9 million metric tonnes of imports. Akwa Ibom State aims to grow the sector by providing hatcheries with infrastructure for fish preservation, processing, storage, and marketing. QIEH can support Nigeria’s fishing sector with its infrastructure, Atlantic Ocean proximity, and access to global supply chains.
